Hey Edler, you awake?

Apparently that's the question that he says that he's most asked according to the CDC Offside with Alex Edler

Q: What question do you always get asked?
A: Are you awake?

Random Edler photo

I finally did an update to the page. The postable stuff definitely comes slower now that it's only new material. In acknowledgement of the recent Edler/Pyatt autograph session, here's an Edler pic! Hordichuk's is today at the Canucks store.

Aside: I've never been to an autograph signing for the Canucks.. I don't think I'd ever go to one - even for Ohlie. To me, the autograph is useless. However, I wouldn't mind a photo. Then again, I've seen the facial expression Ohlund has when posing with fans. Haha! (Erm.. sorry Mattias)

Whew! Canucks still in there with a 3-1 win against Phoenix

Some interesting snippets from recent articles:

MacIntyre & Pap:
SMART, OR WAS IT?: Dallas goalie Marty Turco, who relieved Holmqvist after the first period Saturday, made a heads-up play in bolting to the bench for an extra attacker after Canuck Jeff Cowan knocked the Stars' net off one of its moorings. As is the rule, Dallas was allowed to continue with the puck until a change of possession.

But what if Cowan, who was slow to get up, decided to take five seconds and reset the post on its peg? There would be no automatic whistle if the Canucks got possession and Turco would be stuck on the bench if Vancouver attacked the open net.
Pap on Ohlund:
"It's tough," he said Monday, meeting with reporters for the first time since the operation. "You're pissed off for one day or two and then you move on and accept it and try to do what you can to get back in the lineup as fast as you can."

Vancouver 4-1 against Detroit

Is our season high for straight wins seriously just 4 games?! Ouch. Anyway, the open practice is today. Hopefully people can get some good pics!

WRT last night's game, though I feel bad for Detroit's injury list, that's the way the cookie crumbles. So WOOHOO to a 4-1 game Vancouver! Markus Naslund played despite a nagging groin injury and Mattias Ohlund played though suffering from the flu. Kevin Bieksa's 2nd game back in the line up had him skating a 25 minute night.

Here's a nice profile shot of Alexander Edler from the All Stars.

Alexander Edler - Eaglet??

Well, since Kevin Bieksa is sidelined, Alexander Edler has become the new up and coming young defenceman to herald this year. Here's an Ian McIntyre article on him from the National Post. You know you've got something going if Ian writes a story on you.. and someone makes a replica BC license plate for you.

A cute quote from Trevor Linden excerpted:
"I come up with all kinds of stuff to call guys," Vancouver Canucks Trevor Linden explains. "Alex Edler - Edler. Eddie. Eddie the Eagle. What's an eagle? Big, majestic bird. But he's not big and majestic yet, so I said he's Eaglet. Everyone says, ‘What's an eaglet?' I say it's a baby eagle and everyone laughs, says it isn't. But it is."

I'm surprised Alex Edler doesn't have a bevy of young female fans yet

It probably is because the majority of his photos have him looking 'not there' or with that awfully red mouth protector hanging out of his mouth. But.. it also may be a case of that shy, geeky guy you've always known, growing up hot overnight.

Aaron Miller on Edler: "He doesn't have a heartbeat.. Hell, I don't have one either, but it's because I'm old."

In recent news, the Olympic mascots were unveiled this week and hbc.com is sold out of the plush toys because they flew off the shelves. As usual, a lot of different opinions came out on the designs. Yes, they are very oriental but isn't that Vancouver?? Anyway, I'm liking MukMuk the marmot and the voice of Quatchi.
