A few roster updates on the Canucks

The Canucks have 3 new defensemen.

Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich courtesy of a Sharks trade for defenceman Daniel Rahimi and forward Patrick White.

The Canucks also signed free agent veteran defenseman Mathieu Schneider too.

I reserve judgment until I see them in action!

In Tampa news, Alex Tanguay is now a Lightning Bolt.

I love this girl's description.

"Came out, did an interview, signed some stuff, disappeared."

S'what happens when you come from a hockey crazed city. Tend to be reserved.

Meh, with just a little bit of effort I found these photos of Mattias from the Young Guns Camp. Hate facebok. Ugh.

Memories of Season 3: Danny and Anya

Jeanine won this year. Really liked Jason's personality and admired Brandon for his skills. Really wish that I could see Danny Tidwell dance in some more stuff. He'll be in "Memphis" this fall in NYC but not sure in what context. I'm still waiting for someone to discover the potential of a SYTYCD Broadway!

Zimmerman Rumours true..

Looks like the rumours about Chris Zimmerman, Canucks President and CEO, resigning, are true. He's moving back to New Hampshire for family reasons. Apparently he doesn't have a job lined up but still wants to stay in the field of sports.

Jannik Hansen couldn't get a 1 way contract and now has signed a 2 way one for 1 year: $550k in the NHL, $75k with the Moose. I really like Hansen. Wish he had more ice time.

Arbitration has been good for Kyle Wellwood, who got 1.2 million after all was said and done.

Interview with Brian Lawton

Not that this article is anything new but I thought I'd post it anyway. We ARE in the off season.. not really much news to talk about. Oh, I noticed that the Mattias Ohlund Appreciation Page has fallen off the 1st page of google. Alas, it was a good experiment!

The Hockey News Snippet:Ed Fraser's article

HN: Was Mattias Ohlund the one guy who you had targeted from Day 1?

BL: We had three guys on our list that we really felt would be beneficial and we really felt like we needed to get one of them to get back on track to respectability.

Mattias was on that list, the other two, of course, were Scotty Niedermayer and (Jay) Bouwmeester.

Those guys signed quickly and Mattias was the only one available on our list and it made it real easy as far as giving us direction on July 1.

THN: Was Ohlund’s ability to mentor Victor Hedman at all involved in the thought process behind signing him?

BL: It definitely was. That’s an added bonus. It’s something we wanted, to have a mentor for Victor either way.

We wanted to get an anchor, quite frankly. We believe strongly in Paul Ranger and Andrej Meszaros, but they’re still young in their careers and we were looking for somebody with a little more experience than those guys.

Mattias really fit that bill for us, as did Matt Walker to some degree – not in experience, but certainly his toughness.
