Other teams would love Ohlund if Gillis won't dish the NTC

Interesting.. Mattias made the list of a Habs writer's "Big Fish List"
Mattias Ohlund

It's not a broken finger after all

More on Matty's finger by Iain MacIntyre:
NO MORE MR. TOUGH GUY: You won't see defenceman Mattias Ohlund fight again for the foreseeable future. Not that he doesn't want to, mind you.

"Yeah, that's a big part of my game," the Swede said sarcastically.

Ohlund has a small brace taped to the end of a finger on his right hand to support a ligament that tore away from bone, causing the tip of the digit to sag. The injury is not a broken finger nor did it occur when Ohlund, who has only a handful of fights in his 11-year career, pounded Erik Cole on Saturday after the Edmonton Oiler took a run at him.

Ohlund said the injury happened sometime during the Canucks' earlier six-game road trip, but only since the Cole fight has he been bandaging the finger more heavily. Anyone who fights with tape on his hands faces a match penalty.

"I don't even think about it," Ohlund said of playing with the injury. "It has no effect."

Ok. So why is he playing crap minutes Alain?

Random Edler photo

I finally did an update to the page. The postable stuff definitely comes slower now that it's only new material. In acknowledgement of the recent Edler/Pyatt autograph session, here's an Edler pic! Hordichuk's is today at the Canucks store.

Aside: I've never been to an autograph signing for the Canucks.. I don't think I'd ever go to one - even for Ohlie. To me, the autograph is useless. However, I wouldn't mind a photo. Then again, I've seen the facial expression Ohlund has when posing with fans. Haha! (Erm.. sorry Mattias)

Mattias Ohlund. What a MAN!

Damn, do you see a pattern here? Mattias Ohlund isn't known as a fighter, but if you really want to annoy Mattias, you elbow him. If you're really dumb, you go do that because Mattias Ohlund is really good at calling elbows out. Eric Cole's gonna have a really nice shiner after his bout with Ohlund last night. Adding insult to injury, as a result of not fastening his jersey tiedowns, Eric got booted from the game.

Oh, and Mattias Ohlund was fighting with a broken right finger. You could just feel the pride of every Canucks fan watching. Haha!

Matt Pettinger claimed by Tampa Bay

Matt and Kyle Wellwood were both going to be claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Lightning but only Pettinger cleared for re-entry.

Last night's game was tough. It's hard to be a one trick pony because then every team knows how to play against you - aggressively. Every team now knows to smother the talented players so they don't have a chance to work their magic.

Mattias Ohlund: "We've played seven games. We have 75 games to go. So, to give up now would not be the right thing to do."

Henrik Sedin on the third period: "They were sitting back, so it made it easier,"

Mattias Ohlund in ceremonial faceoff

I think this may be Ohlund's first ceremonial faceoff as the alternate captain. 4-3 OT Canucks v Detroit. Zetterberg was out with a pulled groin, and the Wings' passing was atrocious but I have to give the Canucks credit for playing a better game than the one in Washington.

Canucks 5-4 in OT with Calgary & Nonis in Vancouver

I hope the Canucks ate in last night because someone would have spit into their food after last night's slap to Calgary. After seeing that Bertuzzi hit on whoever that was, I totally agree that the dive should've been called too. It was an exciting game though.. which is more than I can say for games of 2007-08.

Did you know that Dave Nonis came up for the season opener to pay respects to Luc Bourdon's family? I'm sorry he got so shafted. He has my full respect. Here's a snippet from Greg Douglas' article in the Vancouver Sun:
"There was strong evidence of sadness in the eyes of Dave Nonis with his return to GM Place Thursday night. The emotional tribute to Luc Bourdon obviously weighed heavily on the former Canucks' general manager who made Bourdon a first-round pick at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Now the senior adviser of hockey operations in Anaheim, Nonis surfaced unannounced to spend time with Bourdon's mom and loved ones earlier in the day.."

6-0 Canucks and it's not pre-season? Waa?

Last night's game was amazing. Calgary just fizzled after VAncouver killed those rash of penalties. I felt bad for Kip.. almost.

Bernier was a nice surprise, Burrows was effective, Luongo was great, Ohlund brought out his physical game, and we finally had traffic in front of the net!

Here's a youtubed Canucks podcast of players being asked, "What is Mattias Ohlund's birth city?" I like Burrows - "It has a sausage factory.."

The Krajicek trade and Bertuzzi talks

Awww!! Lucas Krajicek is gone to Tampa Bay, Florida. Waaa! Bye Lucas! Good luck! Gillis traded him and Juraj Simek for Shane O'Brien (d) and Michel Ouellet (f).

The Calgary Herald's Vicki Hall had an interesting article on Bertuzzi and Naslund. Some good quotes from Bertuzzi that I was surprised that he gave. I still hate that reporters are still using the catch phrase of "sucker-punch" in association with him though.

Grr.. I hate when BC gets shafted

This has nothing to do with hockey.. but rather how the west is constantly shafted.. and how I hate politics.

Michael Smythe in today's Province
:
The carbon-tax-hating Tories are raking in $30-million from Campbell's carbon caper by charging GST on top of the carbon tax. (Check your last bill from Terasen Gas for proof.)

A tax on a tax. It doesn't get more Canadian than that, eh?

The Campbell government estimates the carbon tax will bring in $1.8 billion over three years. That means the feds will collect an additional $92 million by charging GST on the carbon tax.

Some businesses will be able to recover the GST on their tax returns, but individual consumers will not. Universities, hospitals, charities and non-profit organizations will also get hit with the double-whammy.

The bottom line: The Harper government will reap more than $30 million in profit during the first three years of the B.C. carbon tax -- all while Harper's Tories are campaigning against it, according to accounting firm BDO Dunwoody in a recent analysis.

...Meanwhile, federal Liberal Leader Stephane Dion's call for a national carbon tax raises the spectre of yet another layer of carbon taxation in B.C.

Seeing that turnabout is fair play, Spiers asked Hansen if the B.C. government would charge the provincial sales tax on top of a federal carbon tax if Dion wins the Oct. 14 election.

"That is a decision the government would have to make," Hansen replied. Talk about a double standard! (Check out Spiers's blog for more: vernonblog.blogspot.com.)
