Pictures uploaded to Getty are FAST

I had had Getty up on a search of Canucks pictures while listening to my first pre-season game and noticed that it had refreshed itself with pics after the first period. I always wondered when the reporters in their boxes did that. I guess it happens right then and there between periods. Anyway, here's an exciting one:

In other news..

Bert's got a cold, *sniff*, and a rib injury. Ouch, wouldn't want to be him when he has to sneeze.

from the Georgia Straight article on Luongo:
That cheering you heard the night the Canucks acquired Luongo wasn’t just from his new teammates or hockey fans in Vancouver—the entire Eastern Conference was thrilled to see him go.

“As an organization, we’re pretty happy to see him out of the division,” Atlanta Thrashers head coach Bob Hartley was quoted as saying at the time of the deal. “No disrespect to Todd Bertuzzi, but he only plays 20 minutes per game and Roberto Luongo plays 60 minutes.”

Mattias Ohlund DID get his gold medal

Hahahaha! Cheech from the forum asked him while getting his autograph at the Fan Run on Sat. Here's one pic from her.

Oh and I haven't really kept up to speed on pre-season games but I think Sunday's lineup was mostly veterans so we should've won this in regulation no problem. I think it was a win but it went to shoot out.. Hmm.. not exactly the crushing blow we were anticipating.

Saying "Goodbye" to teammates

Was just thinking that since Mattias has been in Vancouver for so long, he's had to say goodbye to a lot of people throughout the years. The few names that come to mind are: Dave Scatchard, Johan Hedberg, Brad May.. and the numerous defencemen: Adrian Aucoin, Murray Baron, Trent Klatt, Marek Malik, Brent Sopel.. and as of this year, long time Canucks: Todd Bertuzzi, Jarkko Ruutu, Bryan Allen, Ed Jovonovski, and Dan Cloutier.

Well at least roommate, Trevor Linden, is still around (YAY!!!!) and so are his twin pals, the Sedins.

It's hard to imagine Ohlund and Mitchell having a great cameraderie but who knows.

Mattias Ohlund's back

Ben Kuzma, in an August 21, 2006 Province article said that Mattias Ohlund was being slowed down with a wonky back in training camp. It's an interesting article, mindful of Ohlund's endurance and abilities yet critical of his ineffectual play last year.

Miss you too Ruutu!

A snippet from an article with Jaarko Ruutu in SLAM! Sports Canada today:
"It's a totally new thing for me and it takes time for me to adjust. I had seven good years in Vancouver and it was all good. But it was a chance for a change of scenery."

Change was inevitable in Vancouver after the Canucks, pre-season contenders for the Cup, failed to make the playoffs.

"It was a real disappointment at the end of the year. We had high expectations," said Ruutu. "A lot of times when that happens it's time for a change of scenery. But I love Vancouver, it's probably the best place on earth to play hockey. But I have to move on, we've got a good young team here."

Stupid Philly.. and bye Anson

Ok, so Nonis tries to scrimp on Kesler and Carter and now Carter's bye bye and we're forced to overpay Kesler. Somehow, I don't think we won in either case.

I like Carter. He's articulate, educated (Michigan State University Alumni), and business oriented. He started his own record label Big Up Entertainment, produced "Bald" (a feature movie filmed during the lockout, signed to produce (I think) with Brightlight Pictures in Vancouver a couple of feature films as well as a reality series.. He is not just an NHL player.

Are you excited that hockey season is about to begin?

I AM!!

When I was watching Sharapova at the US Open (and trying to ignore the guys behind us drooling over Maria), I was just missing hockey. haha!

Prayer for the upcoming season: Please give our players good health, puck luck and quick feet!

Volcano from space

Just a cool shot

7th and 17th for "Mattias Ohlund" search

Man, I fell asleep while waiting for a call from a potential employer. Oh, the $80K offer wasn't enough to stay awake for was essentially my message. sigh.

But what's MORE exciting is that the Mattias Ohlund Appreciation Page is on the first search page for "Mattias Ohlund" on Google. Hahahaha! That trip to New York really helped (the break in updates).

1.9 mill for Kesler??

So the Flyers would pay 1.9 million for Kesler, eh? Well good for them. And good for Ryan, really. I think that probably throws a wrench in the plans for Nonis' budget if he decides to match that. So I say he won't. :O

Anson Carter got signed! 2.5 million 1 year deal with Columbus. Well at least it's over the 2 mill (?) offer he got from the Canucks.

Ryan Kesler.. does he stay or does he go to Philly?

So.. this just in.. Ryan Kesler signed a one-year offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers today. The Canucks can either match the Flyers' offer or take a 2nd round 2007 draft pick from the Flyers.

Trevor Linden Signs!

Trevor's back baby! He's signed a $600K deal with $200K available in bonuses.

We've also got the Detroit goalie, Drew MacIntyre in exchange for a conditional draft pick in 2007. Poor Wade.

And wonder what's going on with Kesler.. and Carter for that matter..

Bertuzzi finally releases all

Picked up a Province and read a fairly interesting article on Todd Bertuzzi. TSN caught the major points in their article.

He's up again for UFA after this year.. so who knows eh?

Happy Birthday Mattias!!

Mattias Ohlund turns the big 30 today... well, technically yesterday on the 9th.

A couple of my friends are turning 27. Gak!

Lots of famous people were born on the 9th of September: Rachel Hunter (Rod Stewart's gal), Hugh Grant, Adam Sandler, Brett Hull, Michael Keaton, Leo Tolstoy, Napoleon Bonaparte, William Bligh of the HMS Bounty..

Google = Big Brother

I was doing my regular searching for Canucks news and general interesting tidbits when an ad caught my eye. Usually I pass them by but this one was just a link that said, "Kayaking". Now I know that Google's been keeping track of me but it's still somewhat disturbing to see the fruits of their labour. The google ads were law, travel and kayak related and the simplicity of the ad was what made it get through my usual ad blinders. Scary effective.

Google stock, anyone?

NYC - a tourist town

Am not sleeping much while in NYC but still am trying to keep up to date on Canucks news. So Keenan is bye bye. Not sure if that's good thing for Bert or not.
