The Canucks scored 6 Goals?!!
WOOT! 6-5 in OT against the Calgary Flames and the Canucks jump from the bottom of the division to the top with 39 points! (every other team in the division has 38 points and games in hand but that's not importnt right now)
Mattias Ohlund had 3 assists and Sami Salo scored the OT winning goal. Oh how sweet it is!

3-1 Canucks over Calgary at home
Man, the talk of high school reunions just puts everyone on edge, eh? Mind you, only those of us who're unsuccessful. Anyway, after a mini one tonight during the ppv game, I think we're all now ready to NOT show up for the big one. Haha! Especially if we'd have to shell over $100! Whatever.
So.. I can't say I really watched the game through and through tonight. It was nice to see them do a segment on Willie Mitchell and Brendan Morrison river fishing with their little flippers and fishing gear. Anyway, Linden and Daniel Sedin scored tonight. Looks like Bieksa has taken over for Mattias as the Most TOI Guy - 27 minutes. Despite the win, we remain last in the division and 11th in the conference.

Haha! Do you feel closer to the Canucks now that you can bake like their wives?
I looked at the recipes online from a few of the Canucks wives and, for the most part, ignored them... Until I saw this post from another Blogger:
I laughed. Not at the poster, mind you! It's just a freaking funny post!

Why didn't this site come out before I did my Christmas baking? I want to be eating the same Choco-Coco Squares as Mattias Ohlund!
And for the record, I notice that Taylor's Pyatt's gf didn't contribute any recipes. She's no good for you Taylor!!

Frustrating play
Some stupid penalties and several goals later.. Oh boy, a loss to Anson Carter and the Blue Jackets!
Anyway, some Tre Kronor Swedish hockey player photos for Christmas!

Mattias Ohlund's Fan Shootout Anwers
I can hear the wind - another wind storm warning for the early morning. Jeepers. Apparently the damage already done in Stanley Park is going to take months to fix.
So Trevor scored in his last two (I think). Woo hoo! We love Trevor Linden.
Here's a Youtube clip on the fan run that has a few seconds of Mattias Ohlund. Here's also an article in the Hockey News from Tuesday, December 19, 2006 entitled, MATTIAS OHLUND'S FAN SHOOTOUT ANSWERS.

Mattias scores AGAIN.. 3 goals in 3 games!
First of all, thank you to Willie Mitchell for easing Mattias Ohlund's job. Now Nonis doesn't need to rely on just Ohlund to be the defensive defenseman. Last night we won an undeserving win against the Wild. A quote from Niklas Backstrom: "For the past month it's like this. We play well but don't get what we deserve. That's hockey. We just have to keep working and hopefully we get the breaks in the future and turn this ship around." Join the club buddy.
Anyway, the link to NHL highlights for Mattias Ohlund's goals.

Changes to the webpage and whatnot
So.. considering that the guestbook on the Mattias Ohlund Appreciation Page would only keep messages for 90 days, I've opted to move companies. It's nothing special. I'm an advocate of keeping things simple and clean visually.
There is an ecard tool that's available for webmasters which may have some potential. Considering how skilled people seem to be in doing up signatures on CDC, I can post ecards if they want to send me their designs. (Post in your photobucket and jsut post your link in the Comments section). I say the funnier, the better, but whatever. ;-) If I get a few then I'd like to incorporate ecards to the page. Just for fun!
Check out the existing corny cards.

Mattias Ohlund scores!
Last night's game against the Calgary Flames was the best game of the season so far. Now THAT's what Canucks fans want to see! Everyone showed their appreciation at the way the team played with a standing ovation near the dying minutes of the 3-1 victory. Even we were clapping even in the living room watching. Here's the CBC article on last night's game.
Even though there were countless penalties (11 for the Canucks alone), the Canucks didn't look like a defensive minded team as we've seen of late. Mattias Ohlund scored on a sweet pass from Naslund, Brendan Morrison snapped one in from Matt Cooke and the Sedins capitalized late in the second period.
It was pretty entertaining to watch Bieksa tackle some random Flame and Alain shouting at the ref for that so-called Burrows interference penalty and corresponding no goal call. =P
So with Randy Sportak's article in the Calgary Sun, the 3 stars were Luongo, Iginla and Daniel Sedin.

UNSUNG HERO: Mattias Ohlund, Canucks. Big-time penalty killing minutes to go with his goal that sparked the comeback.

Think anyone's meeting up with Ed Tonight?
I always wonder if ex-Canucks get together with their old teammates when they come back into town. Tonight, ex-Canucks Dave Scatchard and Ed Jovanovski were in town and had to swallow a 5-2 loss to the Canucks. Dave was Mattias Ohlund's old roommate pre-Trevor Linden and of course, everyone knows Ed Jovanovski..
I imagine that with the 1st trip back, everyone wants to meet up and see how Ed is.
"How's Wayne as a coach?"
"Bet you don't miss Vancouver weather."
"Dinner's on you, right?"
Other musings: So do Roberto's teammates not like him to stick up for him when he gets crashed into? Hmm.. something to keep an eye out for. Sad that Edler is going back to the Moose despite the good play he's been giving. He'll probably be happy enough to not be living in a hotel room anymore though.

LOL at the Rory hype
So if you're a Canucks fan, you'd have definitely gotten wind of the Vote for Rory campaign. It's on the forums, the media, the locker room and the streets. Now even Authentix will be selling the "Vote for Rory" shirts. What I don't really understand is why the creator is a New Yorker who cheers for the Sabres. *eyebrow arch*
Oh, and here's another article on Slam. Snippets:
Oh, and here's another article on Slam. Snippets:
Roberto Luongo was tearing tape off his legs Thursday when he was asked if he's voted for teammate Rory Fitzpatrick for the all-star team yet.
"Five times," replied the Vancouver Canuck goaltender. Coach Alain Vigneault admitted he's also cast a couple of ballots in Fitzpatrick's favour.
Ohlund, who has averaged over 25 minutes a game on a Canuck team that has struggled to a 13-14-1 record, said it wouldn't bother him if Fitzpatrick gets an all-star nod over him.You gotta love these guys...
"I have too many things to worry about to be mad about that," said Ohlund. "If it happens. . . I think it's just a funny thing."
Fitzpatrick shrugged about getting more votes than his teammate.
"He said he voted for me, so that's his fault," he laughed.
For their part, the Canuck players and coaching staff have found the focus on Fitzpatrick a nice diversion from questions about the team's lack of scoring.
Veteran Trevor Linden just grinned when asked if he's voted yet.
"No," he deadpanned. "I'm going to wait for him to get back in the lineup before I cast my vote.
"I want to see him a little more before I make my decision."

Finally finished
Ahhh, the feeling of finishing the last class and final before the end of the holiday season. It's a damn good feeling!
Anyway, turning now to the Canucks.. who aren't instilling the good feelings..
Sami Salo, 'I will fight anybody' Rypien and Taylor Pyatt are injured. The Canucks were shut out by the Oilers, who, with their injuries and struggling goalie, had seemed like easy pickings.
Here's a thought: We have lots of scoring chances. Those shots don;t become goals because we have no screen. We have no screen because neither the Sedins nor Naslund, (nor anyone else on the team, for that matter) want to be the large immovable pylon in front of the goalie..
Oh, Cloutier and the Kings beat Anaheim that day too.. Oooo..

Ohlund with idol Salming
Though the photo quality isn't great, this is a nice picture of Mattias Ohlund and his childhood idol Borje Salming. Salming was one of the first few Swedes to play in the NHL in the early 70s and paved the road for Europeans alike. He was recently inducted into the hockey hall of fame this year. Here's an article on the ex-Toronto maple leaf #21.

Bah, defensive hockey is boring hockey
I thought yesterday's game was incredibly non-exciting. It was so boring that I won't even talk about it. Update: Josh Green's out for a couple of weeks with a broken toe. Cookie was injured during the second period with an undefined upper body injury. Rypien and Bouck are on their way up from the Moose and Schultz is back down again after just one game.
From Jeff Paterson's article today on Edler (Canucks.com):
Alexander Edler -- “I’ve been to Olly’s (Mattias Ohlund) place for dinner the last time I was here,” he says. “The Swedish guys are great. They’re easy to talk to. I’ve been out for lunch with the Sedins and Markus keeps saying he’s going to invite me.”
