Finland - Silver, Sweden - GOLD!!

Well, I'm quite happy for Sweden cause I'd been cheering for them anyway but poor Finland. They all look so sad. Well at least Ruutu and Salo get to come home and not face the Finnish press.. Salo was in the lineup congratulating the Swedish team and he was holding his right arm. Looks like it's still hurting pretty bad then.

Damn it! I wanted a Cup!!

Ohlund gets mobbed by the press..

Was watching cbc last night and they showed the throngs of reporters and cameramen there to film Mattias Ohlund coming through the exit doors of the International Arrivals at YVR.

Ohlund: "I feel okay, not great... I have a little bit of a sore shoulder but the rib would be the main concern. As far as the pain, I feel pretty good doing normal stuff but obviously there is a little bit of a difference standing here and walking around than playing hockey games.... It's just one rib that is sore," he said. "Whether it's a crack or a bruise, we'll know more after I see our doctors. I don't think it's too serious. Hopefully it won't be too long."

From Ruutu's Blog Feb 23, 2006

"...It’s tough seeing two players I know very well go down to injury with both Mattias Ohlund and Sami Salo being hurt in the Quarterfinals. I don’t know much about the injury to Mattias, but Sami is probably out for the rest of the tournament and maybe longer. We will have to wait and see how bad it is, but I don’t really know what exactly is going on with him though. "

NOooooooo!!!!!!

Nooooooooo!!!! This is not happening... Both Salo and Ohlund are hurt. Can anyone say S**T!??!! Ohlund went down after a backcheck from Swiss Patric Della Rossa in the second period of the first medal round. After sliding into the boards he just laid there until a trainer came to him. He was x-rayed at the hospital and was found to have a rib injury. *whimper* Gustofsson, the Swedish coach, said that the xray was negative for bone breaks but that there was some bleeding in the rib area.

Oh, in other news, Canada and the US lost to Russia and Finland, respectively.

Bring back the fucking NHL...

I miss hockey. I never get to watch any of the games because of the schedule. One of my friends turns 27 today. Another turned 31 earlier in the month. Ever feel like life is just passing you by and that you're long past the stage where you should have gotten it together? No? Me neither.

Scoring so far..

Feb 15: Canada 7 - Italy 2; Sweden 7 - Kazakstan 2

Feb 16: Canada 5 - Germany 1; Sweden 0 - Russia 5

Feb 17: Canada 0 - Swiss 2; Sweden 6 - Latvia 1

Mattias Ohlund has two assists and is a plus 2. Saw a pic of Ohlund catching his stick on the neck of another Swedish player across the net. Looked funny. Not funny haha, but weird. I wonder how that came to be....

I don't think I like NHL players being allowed to play in Olympic hockey... If you get the money going professional, as well as the prestige of being an olympian, the sun only shines on you if you're a player from the NHL. What differentiates Olympic hockey from World Cup hockey and NHL hockey? It's all the same!

Olympic Glory

Quite frankly I don't know if I'm pro or anti Olympics anymore. It just doesn't seem to be all that important anymore. I guess the Koreas standing unified and talking about playing under a unified front is still making the spirit of the Olympics relevant. However, mostly what I think of when thinking abou the Olympics is corporate opportunism. LOL. I had intended to talk about Ohlund going to Turin, Torino or is it Torino, Turin? But alas, I digressed..

So, Ohlund going to Italy. Is it really a big deal for athletes to play in the games? I imagine that it's nice t get a change of atmosphere but what with all of the press, the stress to perform for your country is not so fun to deal with. I guess the personal fatigue can be overcome in order to play, but damn, if I were an NHL player, I'd say screw all this, I want my vacation!

Minny Loss

Wow! That first period was surprisingly exciting to watch. I was all geared up for another yawner against the Wild. We kind of lost that jump in the game after the first period but at least we squeaked through with the two points in the end. Whew. I was applauding Bert and Ohlund for keeping out of the penalty box but shaking my head at Ruutu for that cheap cheap stick up the nuts of Gaborik. *wince*

Soo.. I didn't realize that Fernandez was now considered the Wild No. 1. I don't know that I would credit the low Canuck goal numbers to him entirely though. Auld wasn't given that much of a workout tonight (which is definitely a good thing because it means our defence is picking up).

Mainly Mattias

So, it looks like I'm gonna try this blogging thing. Not exactly sure if this is the forum for what I want to be doing, but I guess I'll figure it out soon. =P
