Bye Mo! Brendan Morrison's headed to Anaheim

So Brendan Morrison is gone too. So far the Canucks of 2008-09 do not look good. I was pissed off last year.. I'm already mad about this coming year. The movment so far.. Sanford stays here, Mo to the Ducks, Bertuzzi to the Flames, Naslund to the Rangers. Thank you E Pap for giving Ohlund a call. It's been awhile since we've had anything Ohlund'esque' to post about. Vancouver Sun snippet:
"If Mats calls, trust me I will put in a good word for the team," Ohlund chuckled Monday from his summer home in northern Sweden. "I haven't spoken to him or the Canucks or anybody regarding him. Maybe I should call him. I don't know if it would help or not. I guess it couldn't hurt."

Ohlund and Sundin are hardly strangers. They have played together internationally numerous times, most recently on Sweden's gold-medal winning 2006 Olympic team.

They share the same agent, J.P. Barry, so the lines of communication should be open. Barry also represents the Sedin twins. The Canucks' courting of Sundin is major news in Sweden.

"Mats Sundin is one of the biggest hockey players our country has had in the last 15 years along with Peter Forsberg and Nicklas Lidstrom," Ohlund said. "So whatever he does gets pretty big headlines over here. He's been one of the best players in the NHL for a lot of years. It would obviously be a big, big boost for us.

"He's shown, even at age 37, he can still play at a very high level. It should be interesting to see what happens."

Ohlund was still taking stock of the fact he's now the senior member of the team. His first Canuck campaign was 1997-98. The Sedins are next in seniority.

"It's been 10 seasons and it's gone by really quickly," commented Ohlund, 31. "Time flies, that's for sure. Hopefully I can have a few more years in the league. It's going to be different without Trevor and Markus. Both guys have been a big part of our team for a lot of years."

Ohlund is entering the final year of his contract that pays him $3.5 million. Now that July 1 has passed, he is eligible to sign an extension. There have been no talks so far.

"I'm sure we'll figure out what's going on in the next few weeks or months," he said.

Ohlund enters the 2008-09 season as the franchise leader in goals by a defenceman (87) and needs 22 points to surpass Jyrki Lumme and Dennis Kearns as the franchise leader in points by a defenceman. Ohlund is sitting at an even 300.

Re: Trevor - I know. I'm so sad with Linden too. I refused to watch or listen to any of the news coverage with Trevor. =( We should've won a Cup with Trevor. Now its like, why bother now?
